This past Saturday, Mr. Comforts of Home and I went to nearby Biltmore Estates for a day.  I did a post about it on Monday.

While shopping in on of the gift shops, we found some wonderful plates and napkins.  So I thought this would be the perfect post for Susan's Between Naps on the Porch, Tablescape Thursday!

I used black place mats, but I could just have easily used yellow, red, blue or green place mats because, these plates each have a different color bird on it.  Under each plate is either a white dinner plate or a black and white harlequin checked dinner plate.

If you look back on the bakers rack, you can see a matching salad bowl.  The bowl has all 4 birds on it.

You can see from the picture above, they also look great with transferware!

Decorology just went carbon neutral

As the daughter of an environmentalist - I really grew up with no choice in the matter, though it's not a hard choice to adopt! For placing the the below badge on my sidebar, Kaufda will plant a tree neutralising the carbon dioxide emissions of my blog.

Antiquing With A Blog Friend

I spent Tuesday with a special blog friend that I met a while ago.  Gretchen from Bird Nest Cottage lives about an hour and a half from me in Greenville, SC.  We get together a few times a year.  This time I convinced Gretchen to come to Asheville, NC since she had not seen my new home. 

First we went to Sweeten Creek Antiques...

We saw some wonderful chandeliers.

This cool paper mache rooster, that I bought and have some great plans for (stay tuned!).

Didn't buy this book, but the title is my life - lol!

I am in love with these two English lanterns.  They were originally $475.  Now $285.  When they become $95 they are mine!  They are about 24 inches tall.  They would look amazing on a deck, porch, entry way.  Think of the possibilities.  In the fall surround by giant gourds and filled with burnt orange candles.  At Christmas surrounded by fresh evergreens with a red bow and white candles...

After Sweeten Creek Antiques, Gretchen and I (Gretchen on the left) went to Biltmore Village and had lunch at Chelsea's Tea Room.

We both had the Chelsea Sampler.  The quiche of the day, chicken salad, tarragon pasta salad and fruit salad. Yummy!

On to the Tobacco Barn.  Another favorite antique mall I love to go to.  Look at these great book covers.  These are vintage books with vintage fabric covers.  They are tattered, faded and worn.  They look great!

This is an amazing LAVENDER toile French settee.  It was beautiful!

I have had a few of you ask in the past about the McDonald's that is in Asheville near Biltmore Estates.  Yes, it does have a FIREPLACE and yes it does have a GRAND PIANO.  It has been featured on the Travel Channel.  Gretchen and I stopped there for drinks on the way home.  Here is the grand piano.  It is a player piano and classical tunes are playing all of the time.

Here is the fireplace.  In the fall and winter it is always lit.

I had a wonderful time today visiting with Gretchen.  If you ever have a chance to visit a blog friend, please don't hesitate!  It is so much fun!

Awesome wallpaper - unique and chic

I was introduced to this wallpaper and had to share it right away. It doesn't hurt that the styling for these photos is gorgeous too. I think my favorite is either the zebras, or the ibis in the neutral/magenta colorway. How about you?

Brocante With a Friend

Let's Go Out to Lunch and Do Some Shopping!

On Saturday, Mr Comforts of Home and I went to the Biltmore Estate.  They just opened a new section called Antler Hill.  It is a quaint shopping village, that includes a village green with old fashioned bandstand and shops, museum and a restaurant.  The restaurant has indoor or outdoor seating.  We sat outside.

First we ordered an appetizer and a couple of local draft beers.

Guess what the appetizer is?

Fried Pickles!! I have never had fried pickles before.  They were delicious.  Mr. Comforts had fish and chips and I had a smoked beef brisket sandwich.  We ate them before I remember to take a picture.

After lunch we wandered around the little village.  This flower cart reminded me of France.

Next we went into one of the shops in Antler Hill.  It is called Traditions. 

 Look at this great lamp with a screened shade over a chandelier!  How about the wonderful red velvet chair?

Here are some more goodies in the shop.

Isn't this shop Divine?  I did buy something here.  I will show you on Thursday.  I plan on joining Susan at Between Naps on the porch for Tablescape Thursday.
