Mid week musings..........

0

Hi there, how are you? Hope you are having a great week...any exciting Labor day plans coming up? We are supposed to be heading to my sisters beach house, and I cannot wait. I am looking forward to a few days of total relaxation and some summer fun. No time like the last weekend of summer to start enjoying it:)  Today is as always a random post about a few different things, so lets get started!!
OK I am seriously in love, in love I tell you with my new window seat! Makes me do  my happy dance every time I walk by it......I had done the cushion but just got some of my pillows made, I had them cut out scenes from the Brunschig and Fils window seat fabric and added trim to the velvet and had bolster made and am waiting on the other blue and white vase pillow. Now that these are in place, I can figure out what I am doing for the window...I am inclined to go simple as to not take away from the beauty of the window seat and pillows....so here it is! (still experimenting with different sized pictures....hence the different sizes here) Most seem to like the enlarged pictures.

I think the pillows and what I did with them have a very "Charles Faudree" vibe going on!

Got the pretty faucet installed on my vanity in the powder room....slowly one thing at at time, its coming together. Waiting on the Chinoiserie mirror we ordered and chandelier, then we are done!

Dough bowls......got in my first order, seriously gorgeous. Worth naming each and every one and calling them my own, and don't you know I wanted to keep them ALL! I did keep one for myself and there are so many wonderful ways to use them, I put some flowers in and it looked so pretty. For those of who waiting for me to get more,  I promise working on and hope to have more fingers crossed, next week!

Finally finished my little DIY project, with my mirror rosettes. OK, OK I know this is not a huge DIY like some who tackle entire pieces of furniture or other big projects..but this was a victory for me because I had such a hard time finding this darn rosette and lo and behold found it in such an unsuspecting place. Armed with a glue gun, I got to work and love the result! Decided on the originals, after trying several different ones. Funny how we often go back to the first, isn't it? So here it is all done.....only waiting on my sconces and chandelier and its a wrap!

A  few taken later that afternoon...love the late day light.

Barstools.....finally decided on this one from Vanguard. I am wavering between a few fabrics, I know I want something simple Becca's remember the blue and white Brunschwig fabric going up on my kitchen window has a lot of pattern. I see something simple and fell in love with this grain sack French fabric from Kravet. I don't at all want it to feel gimmicky but at the same time KNOW it will look fabulous, it will understated and beautiful on this chair....and i love the way the natural color goes with my floors and the mix of cools and warms. Here it is and the chair...

Draped it over the current chair so you could get an idea, its absolutely understated but think it works...thoughts?

Remember how I was thinking of switching the hardware on my island? Well I think I made up on my mind. Here's one of the cup bins in the ant. brass to give you an idea. It definitely pops against the black whereas the oil rubbed bronze gets lost. The big handle is on top of the countertop that I would use for towels to be hung off the island...thoughts?

Taken with the iPhone, so the quality is so so.

Store biz......the kitchen/bar towels have arrived! Many of you inquired about them...they will be up for sale next week. Here's a sampling......

When we were in the city over the weekend, we were near our old stomping grounds and I was shocked to see the most beautiful Food Emporium (my old regular supermarket when I lived in NY) transformed under the 59th st bridge. I mean seriously it would make supermarket shopping a royal treat, the architecture alone is worth the trip. Took these two pics with my iPhone.

Also visiting a friend yesterday, look at her view from her living room patio. How gorgeous is it! I told her I feel like I am in Lake Como every time I visit her...only thing missing is George Clooney:)

Tonight I am trying this recipe (from Bon Appeit), sounded too good to not make. Heard the lemon gives it that refreshing zing to make this a winner. I used to have the recipe for something very similar that was out of this world...so here it is just in case you want to try it too!

Fettucine with peas, asparagus and pancetta

yield: Makes 4 servings
active time: 40 minutes
total time: 40 minutes
Pancetta (Italian bacon) is available in the deli section of many markets.

  • 3 ounces pancetta or bacon, chopped
  • 1 1/4 pounds asparagus, trimmed, cut on diagonal into 1-inch pieces
  • 2 cups shelled fresh green peas, blanched 1 minute in boiling water, drained, or frozen peas (do not thaw)
  • 1 bunch green onions, thinly sliced, white and pale green parts separated from dark green parts
  • 2 garlic cloves, pressed
  • 1/2 cup finely grated Parmesan cheese plus additional for serving
  • 1/3 cup heavy whipping cream

preparation

Cook pasta in pot of boiling salted water until just tender but still firm to bite. Drain, reserving 1/2 cup pasta cooking liquid. Return pasta to pot.
Meanwhile, cook pancetta in large nonstick skillet over medium heat until crisp. Using slotted spoon, transfer pancetta to paper towels to drain. Pour off all but 1 teaspoon drippings from skillet. Add asparagus to drippings in skillet; sauté 3 minutes. Add peas, white and pale green parts of green onions, and garlic; sauté until vegetables are just tender, about 2 minutes. Remove from heat.
Add vegetable mixture, 1/4 cup pasta cooking liquid, dark green parts of green onions, 1/2 cup Parmesan, cream, olive oil, lemon juice, lemon peel, half of parsley, and half of basil to pasta. Toss, adding more cooking liquid by tablespoonfuls if needed. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Transfer to large bowl. Sprinkle pancetta, remaining parsley, and basil over. Serve, passing additional Parmesan cheese

So...that's what new here, whats on your agenda for Labor day weekend? Is it going to be a chill weekend at home, are you entertaining or are you being wined and dined? I think we are headed to my sisters beach house and I am looking forward.  I am also hoping to head  off to Brimfield Antiques fair for a few days next week....cannot wait! Wishing you a fabulous day.........

Mid week musings and a Bavarian bread board giveaway!!

0

Hi everyone! So hope you are having a wonderful week. Today is another random musings post about a  whole lot of things...kind of all over the map. Its a great day for me  to chat about this and that, which I am getting quite good at I must say:) So lets get going shall we!
Hopefully you got to visit me at the guest post over at Belle on Heels yesterday on bistro kitchens and saw my Bavarian bread board giveaway. To enter just visit my online store and come back here and tell me a favorite item or two...that's it! I will announce a winner on Friday. Moving along.......

House biz....So excited to show you my almost completed powder room! Honey onyx countertop went in, sink and faucet coming in today. At last we are nearly done. Waiting on mirror and chandelier and then this baby is a wrap! I really love love love the way it turned out. Its all I hoped for. So, take a look.......

Was expecting wallpaper hanger to come this week but now he is away so hopefully next Wed. this will get hung, but here is the back bathroom in progress. Added one of my favorite silver planters from my shop to the vanity, and think it looks so pretty, what do you think?

Moving along to my guest room. Got the toile fabric and decided on a check which I then found out was back ordered 8 long weeks. Not happening. I like instant gratification so scoured for another back up. Found one which I actually like I believe nearly as much, so here it is. As we speak this guest room is about to go into production, and I cannot wait till its all done. You know I will be sharing! Draped the two fabrics over two pillows on the settee to give you an idea.........

Just finished That Old Cape Magic and have to say I really enjoyed it, its a definite recommendation, entertaining well written and a book you can finish in a weeks time.  I really like Richrad Russo's writing style....going to get his other books.
Speaking of books, last night ordered two new design books...have you gotten either? Have all of Charles and Betty Lou's books so happy to add these to my growing collection......

Posted about these before, and I must say they are heavenly good, worth posting about again..trust me! I am not saying they are diet friendly but I am saying they are what I would call
"comfort cookies" :)

Ingredients for Pistachio cream cheese cookies

1/2 cup butter, softened
1 3 ounce package cream cheese, softened
1 cup powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1  egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2  teaspoons finely shredded orange or lemon peel (optional)
1/2 cup finely chopped lightly salted pistachio nuts

In a large bowl, combine butter and cream cheese. Beat with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Add powdered sugar, baking powder, and salt. Beat until combined, scraping bowl occasionally. Beat in egg and vanilla until combined. Beat in as much of the flour as you can with the mixer. Using a wooden spoon, stir in any remaining flour. If desired, stir in orange peel.

Divide dough in half. Shape each half into a 7-1/2-inch-long roll (about 1-1/2 inches in diameter). Roll in pistachio nuts. Wrap each roll in plastic wrap or waxed paper. Chill about 1 hour or until dough is firm enough to slice. Or freeze dough for up to 2 months.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Cut rolls into 1/4-inch slices. Place 1 inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake in the preheated oven for 7 to 9 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Transfer to a wire rack; cool. Makes about 44 cookies.

Are you a makeup junkie? I am a former makeup hoarder. I used to buy it all the time, multiples and forget when I actually loved something......I bought them by the 3's and 4's to be assured I would not run out. I take the "high-low" approach, some things I spend a lot on because I feel its worth it, other things not as much. Was at a bookclub meeting and one of the girls brought a friend who was visiting her for the week who is an actress, she shared a few secrets from the makeup artists that she's worked with, one of which was the new mascara by Maybelline "Falsises"....so naturally I had to try it. Well shes right, its awesome! I was using Dior and Borghese's mascaras both which I liked, but this one I  like even better and its a third of the price. So...worth checking out.
Store updates......all new crystal hurricane candles are now up for sale. They are stunning, with four new added styles. Remember when the candle is gone, you can send back for a refill (1.00 an oz) but so worth it. By far my favorite candle EVER.
This is a big one, 50 oz of heaven

This one even bigger, a new one 60 oz!

All three of these are the minis........

Also dough bowls continue to be a very popular item and with good reason, they are so beautiful and allow you bring a little bit of the past into your kitchen. I am so excited to have a new source from France who I met in person and I fell in love with this things. At the moment he had more of the small-medium sized ones which are so hard to find. So I bought what he had of the small rounds which are hard to come by and have 6 coming in and the sm-med. long ones (4 coming in). I am keeping one of each for myself, they are really beautiful and dark wood which is my personal fave. Here's a few pics. Email me if interested to theenchantedhome@gmail.com They are due here on Monday!

Also the gorgeous chargers that I had gotten in sold out right away. I unexpectedly got in a small batch. Announcing it here first, its first come first serve. They are sold in sets of 4's. I have approx 24 pieces. The prices are about 35% less than they are being sold for in many fine boutiques. Talk about dressing up a table!! Contact me here if you are interested.

You know I love a monogram on anything so this is very fitting for me to carry this line! Awesome for gifts and equally fab gift for yourself. Great price points (I will discount approx. 15% off retail). Best part...they turn these around in approx. 48 hours and are shipped directly to you! Doesnt' get better than that!  Here is a sneak peek at some of the fabulous items. Hope to have them up and for sale next week!
